Please join the Fork Union Day Parade on Saturday September 12th. The parade begins at 9:30 AM.https://fluvannalrd.org/fork-union-day

Fork Union and the surrounding community would be heavily impacted by the proposed Valley Link transmission routes. With Dominion’s application likely to reach the State Corporation Commission within the coming days, weeks, or months. This parade presents a timely opportunity to support the community and demonstrate the growing opposition to the harm this project would cause.

Congressman John McGuire (current US Congressman representing Virginia District 5) and Candidate Tom Perriello (running for US Congress in Virginia’s District 5) have been invited to join the parade and walk side by side with landowners.

 

There is also a Car Show this Saturday September 5th 10:00-3:00 at the Fork Union Drive-In (159 Winnsville Dr, Bremo Bluff, VA 23022). Judy Bell is organizing an ANTI Valley Link presence including a tent where attendees can view the routes and another tent for signs, magnets, and representatives from affected communities. This event is not organized by RVC, so I am unable to answer questions. However, please consider attending and supporting the community’s efforts to spread the word and the truth about the Valley Link project. And see some super cool cars!

 

As we prepare for Dominion Energy and Valley Link to file their application with the State Corporation Commission, RVC could use some time-limited assistance with a few Administrative tasks:

  • RVC Website help. We need to make some updates to the website. I expect this project to take 1-3 hours. If you have any website development experience, please contact me. Our website is set up via SquareSpace.
  • Admin help. As the interest in joining the email distribution list grows, we could use some help ensuring the list is regularly updated with new names and emails. This is purely data entry. The time commitment is generally 20-30 minutes once or twice per month.
  • Assistance drafting various RVC policies and procedures. This is a project I plan to dive more heavily into in a few weeks.

CALLS TO ACTION 

Dominion Energy and Valley Link could file with the SCC any day now. We need your financial support for the Valley Link Legal Defense fund. We have identified a few law firms and attorney we think could be incredible advocates for ALL potentially impacted counties. We are winnowing down the list & plan to begin setting up consultations in the next week or two. Please consider donating to RVC HERE. All donations are tax deductible. 100% of the funds raised are supporting legal defense for all 9 potentially impacted counties. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $500,000 in the next one-two months. If everyone chipped in even $5 or $10 we can move the dial on our $500,000 goal..

Please continue to reach out to your District representatives on the Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission. Call, email, and write letters. It is vital that we continue to speak out about Valley Link, data centers, and zoning ordinances that are related to data centers and other energy infrastructure projects. Some tips for your communications:

  • Select one or two areas of concern about Valley Link, data centers, or the Technology Overlay District proposed new zoning ordinance
  • Include articles with solid data to support your concerns.  Copying and pasting the full article can be more effective and efficient than providing weblinks
  • Communications should be fact-based, non-partisan, and polite
  • Consider committing to communicating weekly or every other week. It can be a short message – even a “Hello, here is an article that addresses one of my concerns.”

Attend upcoming Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission Meetings
